If you must stay in LA get to the Santa Monica pier area and find a nice hotel
Make sure you don't take a wrong turn and end up in the hood you won't be welcome
Not sure why anyone would actually want to go to LA but if you're there do the tour of the stars, drive to Palm Springs if you've got time
Have a good holiday, long way to go for a week!

Only one real disappointment in all the times we went was Hollywood... if you have togo spend 2 hours tops looking at the walk of fame and then get out and hit somewhere far nicer.... hollywood is a dump... far far nicer places in LA... love San Diego as well... Del Mar is the nuts

Go in n out, of course. There's one straight outside LAX.
San Diego is a totally different vibe from LA, but it's a good city in its own right.

The Pikey is a decent pub on sunset, as is bar marmont next to the hotel. Blue palm I think is a craft beer place that I went to on Hollywood.

Been to LA 4 times now absolutely love the place... Beaches are magnificent... Huntington seal Hermosa Santa monica and dog beach are our favs... Great entertainment everywhere... The Hollywood universal knocks the shit out of the Orlando ones... We stayed first time not far off Compton...to be fair its nice neighborhood now... Only dodgy places that made us feel a tad uneasy were Inglewood and long island.. Otherwise I feel far uneasy walking down Southend high street after dark

Went to LA about 12 years ago. My Mrs had worked with someone who lived out there and told us to stay on the coast at Santa Monica. Lovely place but we weren't there to do clubbing, shopping people watching etc.
We stayed right on the beach front, Santa Monica had a nice mixture of everything you needed. LA itself is massive so would be handy if you had a car to get about.

Get down to Santa Monica, you'll find a girl with a guy called Bill or billy or Mac or buddy having some fun
There is a strip bar on Hollywood blvd where the sign reads 10 hot girls and one really ugly one. She will be better looking than every girl in Basildon
Get über everywhere.

Rather than ghettos and Celeb watching I'm looking for more boho and arty places with cool people and some craft ales. Maybe a bit of left field music or jazz ir poetry reading.
